Promote your participation in the SECC

We encourage you to promote the fact that you are eligible for contributions through the SECC. The tools and tips below were created to help you spread the word that you are an approved SECC charity within the rules established in Title 1, Chapter 35 of the State of North Carolina's Administrative Code. For a summary of the rules specific to participating charities click here or download Charities in the State Workplace.

Tips for Promoting Your Participation in the SECC

  • Share the news that you are an approved SECC charity with your staff, board, and volunteers. Encourage them to share the information with any state employees that they may know - respecting the rules established in Chapter 35 (no direct solicitation).

  • Encourage your Board members and other volunteers who are state employees to share information about volunteer opportunities at your organization and invite their coworkers to join them. This is a great way to engage state employees year round.

  • Set up volunteer events and invite state employees to participate. Invite your Board members and recipients of your services (if appropriate) to join you and share stories as they work alongside the volunteers.

  • Include your SECC Designation Code on your print and digital publications. This can include, but not be limited to: newsletters, e-blasts, community PowerPoint presentations, blog posts, brochures, fliers, rack cards, and handouts. Click here for SECC and GIVE logos and other graphics you can use to accompany your Designation Code on publications.

  • Share your SECC Designation Code on your website. Click here for downloadable website badges that can be customized with your Designation Code. You may want to consider creating a web page designed for the SECC and include stories about the impact of prior years' SECC donations.

  • Share the news that you are an approved SECC charity as well as the impact SECC donations make with your social media followers. Click here for customizable social media graphics.

  • Send promotional items to the SECC office when requested. Promotional items play an important role in increasing donor participation. We use the items to create gift bags for volunteers, at kick-off events, as well as distributing them to our volunteers to use as give aways, door prizes, for contests, etc. State employees deeply appreciate them - they are a “big hit!”

  • Participate in as many Charity Fairs as you can. Charity Fairs provide an opportunity for you to speak with state employees and share information about your organization's work. Click here to visit the Charity Fair page.

  • Participate or host an information table at events, such as information forums and health fairs, hosted by state organizations in your community. This is another great way to engage state employees year round.

  • Thank the donors who designated their pledge to your organization last year. Saying thank you is a simple way to let the state employee donors who've shared their contact information with your organization that you appreciate them. When donors feel appreciated they are more likely to give again.

Charity Fairs

Sign up for as many charity fairs as you can. Participating in Charity Fairs increases your visibility among potential donors and gives you an opportunity to share information about your organization. You can include your SECC Designation Code on materials you distribute at the Fairs. To view a list of currently scheduled Charity Fairs and to apply for consideration, click here. We encourage you to check back often during the campaign season (August 18 through December 1), as new Charity Fairs are scheduled throughout the campaign. Due to a limited number of spaces at some Charity Fairs, charities will be selected by weighted lottery from among eligible applications.
